Acid Wash Service

Acid Washing removes stains
Stained pool surfaces are very unsightly. It does not give the same look or feel that a clean and clear pool surface will be. I bet that if you have a dirty pool surface, it is very unlikely for you to want to invite your family or friends for the pool party you always wanted to have. Pools are meant to entertain but all the fun disappears when they appear dirty and stained. For the most part, pool stains are caused by poor pool maintenance, metals from cleaning equipment, algaecides, or poor water chemistry balance. The best and fastest way to get rid of all these stains is through acid washing.

What is Acid Washing?
Acid washing is the removal of dirt, stains, and mineral deposits from the sides of a pool using an acid solution. The pool has to be completely drained before this process can start because acid washing involves the removal of a thin layer of the pool surface. After the pool is drained, the sides are scrubbed. Then muriatic acid and a water solution is applied to remove the top coat of the pool. Using an acid brush, the surface of the pool is scrubbed again. After this, the residue is neutralized using soda ash and then rinsed away.

Is Acid Washing Safe For Your Pool?
A lot of pool owners often worry about the safety of acid washing. Will it damage the pool? Will it contaminate the water? The answer is not necessarily. Acid washing removes stains by using acids to remove a thin layer of the pool surface, right? Well, when done properly, the acid is neutralized and then removed from the pool surface before the pool is filled up. This way the pool chemicals will be balanced, making it safe for you and your family to swim again. However, it is important to note that frequent acid washing will speed up the need to resurface your pool. Also, be careful on who you choose to hire for this service, there are companies that may use too strong of a solution to cut through the gummy layers. This is why you should only acid wash your pool when it is recommended by a professional that you trust. We aim to be those professionals!

What type of pool surfaces are safe for Acid Washing?
It is very important to note that not all pool surfaces are suitable for acid washing. If you have vinyl, acrylic or painted surfaces as your pool surface, then you should not acid wash your pool, under any circumstances. Surfaces like plaster, pebble and quartz can be acid washed. However, they should be older than 8 years and be without any hollow areas or visible cracks. Performing an acid wash on any of the blacklisted surfaces can compromise the integrity of your pool. We can evaluate this entire process for you so you do not need to second guess any of this information.

How to Know When Acid Washing is Necessary for Your Pool?
It is not strange for you to get the urge to acid wash your pool at the first sight of an unsightly stain. Again, it is important to note that it must be completed every so often (months) to maintain the integrity of your pool surface. This is why proper pool maintenance is very important. It will prevent the need for you to have acid wash so much in the first place. However, if you see significant staining caused by metals or chemicals resistant to water or noticed  a scale buildup of stains on the surface of your pool, then you should call us for an evaluation.
